Sector Specific Projects

The Business Innovation Partnership undertakes capacity building projects with groups of companies where these projects have been identified as beneficial to a specific sector or sectors. These sector specific projects are offered through the following: Architects and Designers program, conferences, symposiums, workshops, and other industry requested programs or projects.GBM2007_0771

Architects and Designers Program: This program involves working with individual value-added wood companies to increase their skill sets related to effective communications when presenting to architects and designers.

This program includes:

  • Lunch and Learn program: 1 hour lunch presentations with value-added wood companies to architects and designers outlining BC’s value-added wood products
  • Architects Specifiers Guide: a guide showcasing products from BC’s value-added wood companies for architects and desigers distributed at the lunch and learn session
  • Trade shows: exhibition of value-added wood products geared towards the architectural and design community

Conferences, Symposiums, and Workshops: Participation in conferences and symposiums provide an opportunity for like-minded companies to interact with one another and become familiar with best practices and current industry trends.  The Business Innovational Partnership will hold the following conferences, symposiums, and workshops:

Log Home/Timber Frame Symposium: Educational Symposium for Log Home and Timber Frame Companies.

Cabinet/Millwork Symposium: 1 day symposium for cabinet and millwork manufacturers on topical issues faced by the industry including finishing techniques, LEED update, market opportunities, market trends, Architect Program, CNC machining.

Sustainable Wood Products Conference & Show: 2 day conference on Vancouver Island highlighting local value added wood products; includes a professional development day for the value-added sector followed by an industry tradeshow open to the general public as well as architects, designers, and contractors.

Cedar Summit Program: Educational symposium geared to manufacturers and buyers of WRC held in conjunction with the Global Buyers Mission in Whistler, Sept 2010.

Building Systems/Green Symposium: 1 day workshop for builders highlighting technical developments, R&D, trends, and market opportunities in the area of prefabricated construction; next generation building systems; and current trend information on ‘Green’ building’.

New Markets/New Products: 1 day workshop for remanufacturers highlighting new product opportunities and new developments in technical, manufacturing, equipment, R&D, and market trends and opportunities.

Thermowood-Marketing & Business Case: Investigation of marketing and business cases for Thermally Modified Wood.  The specific focus will be on Hemlock/Balsam.

Thermowood-Product Development: Investigation of new product development made from Thermally Modified Wood.  The specific focus will be on Hemlock/Balsam and its ability to be thermally modified and turned into its own product lines.

In addition to the predefined categories listed above, other sector-based projects will be considered that are brought to the attention of the program manager throughout the year. Other categories may include studies, incoming missions, outgoing missions, and networking activities.
